As the central hub of the Volcano Park, the Information Center provides an overview of the park’s diverse geological and archaeological themes. Visitors learn about the fiery history of the Eastern Eifel’s formation as well as its more than 7,000-year history of mining. There is also an overview of the entire Volcano Park with all its attractions.
Visitors can learn about the unique features of (Eifel) volcanism, the most important volcanoes in the Eastern Eifel, and the history of stone quarrying. In the “Volcanology” exhibition area, the fiery history of the Osteifel’s formation is explored and brought to life through large illuminated displays and impressive film footage.
In the “Archaeology” exhibition, visitors are introduced to the history of basalt lava and tuff quarrying. Visitors can literally immerse themselves in this history: a 3D floor display allows them to visually peer into the tunnels and quarries. From Roman times through the Middle Ages to the modern era, everything revolves around the quarrying of these valuable volcanic raw materials.
In the Stone Experience Garden, you can hear, feel, and handle volcanic rocks while listening to the murmur of the “Nette” River as it flows over large basalt boulders in the adjacent “Rauscherpark.”
You should plan on spending about 1 ½ hours visiting the Volcano Park Information Center. For guests eager for both exercise and information, we recommend following up with a hike along the trails of Roman history—following the Nette River and the Krufter Bach stream—to the Ancient Technology World at the Meurin Roman Mine.

Small but mighty: Anyone wishing to delve into the geological and mining history of the Eastern Eifel should begin their journey of discovery at the Vulkanpark Information Center. The Information Center is also an interesting introduction to the Volcano Park for families with children—especially when combined with the World of Ancient Technology at the Meurin Roman Mine—thanks to its affordable admission prices.
