Vulkan-Expreß
A trip with the Brohltalbahn is more than just a train ride. It is pure everyday deceleration, a true experience of technology and nature. It brings the volcanic region of Laacher See with its unique volcanic landscape to life and gives a sense of the "effort" it takes the locomotives to overcome around 400 meters in altitude between the Rhine and Eifel. Step on board and experience a unique narrow-gauge railway in the attractive landscape of the Eastern Eifel!
On the nearly 18 km-long meter-gauge line from Brohl am Rhein to Engeln in the Eifel, our train crosses several high viaducts and passes through a tunnel nearly 100 meters long. We climb nearly 400 meters in elevation! On most days, our trains are pulled by green-and-beige diesel locomotives. See for yourself how our locomotives have to give it their all, especially on the steep stretch between Oberzissen and Engeln, to get the train to its destination on time! On select days, we also regularly run our historic steam locomotive “11sm.”
