Lustige Orgelmusik zu Karneval in Maria Laach

Benediktinerabtei Maria Laach

6/5/26
7:00 PM

It’s that time again! On Saturday, February 14th, at 12:00 PM, the traditional Carnival Organ Matinee will take place in the Abbey Church of Maria Laach, as always performed by the local organist, Gereon Krahforst, himself.

This time he starts with a "Carmen" fantasy by Lemare, which includes all the important and beloved themes from the Bizet opera - especially the Torero march. This year, as the date clearly indicates, this Saturday coincides with Valentine's Day. Therefore, Krahforst builds on improvisations over older and more current Carnival songs and, for the first time, also includes organ paraphrases of love songs from the rock music genre (Richard Marx "Right here waiting", Metallica "Nothing else matters", BAP "Do kanns zaubere" and Judy Garland "Somewhere over the rainbow" in the beautiful jazz version by Keith Jarrett).
In addition to jazz standards like "Tea for two" and the "Pink Panther," the cheerful overture to "The Thieving Magpie" by Rossini will conclude in a unique organ version.

The captivating, entertaining, and colorful program lasts 45 minutes exceptionally; admission is free; a collection will be taken at the end.

Warm invitation!
