7:00 PM

On Friday, August 28, Regional- and Cathedral Organist Markus Karas from Bonn will perform the third-to-last organ concert at the Abbey Church of Maria Laach at 7.00 p.m. Nearly 40 years ago, he was the first organ teacher of the Laacher organist Krahforst, who now performs concerts worldwide.

Karas interprets works by Bach (Pièce d´orgue G major), Franck (Pièce héroïque), Liszt (Fantasia and Fugue on "B-A-C-H" as well as other works by himself, Langlais, and Alain. A grand, impressive musical arch is formed, culminating in the virtuosic, brilliant work of Liszt. Karas, born in 1961, studied in Frankfurt am Main; since 1974, he has created numerous compositions. Master classes with Ton Koopman, Michael Radulescu, Jean-Claude Zehnder, among others, have kept his interpretations of Baroque music up to date with a historically informed performance practice.
Since 1989, Markus Karas has been the Münsterorganist in Bonn and conductor of the local choirs. In addition to his continuous and worldwide concert and teaching activities, Karas is the conductor of the multiple award-winning women's chamber choir BonnSonata, with which he has also been a state winner in the choir competition NRW twice.

Total duration of the concert: approx. 60 minutes.

Admission is free; at the end, there will be a collection for the preservation of the Laacher organ concerts.
