Laacher Orgelkonzert mit beiden Orgeln im Dialog

In July and August 2026, the guest wing of Maria Laach Abbey will host two seminars led by Abbot Mauritius Wilde, OSB. Both courses will focus on key expressions of the spiritual life.

The seminar “The Mystery of the Eucharist” will take place from July 31 to August 2, 2026. It begins with an understanding of the Eucharist as the source and summit of Christian life. The course explores how one can participate in the celebration of Mass with a “listening heart”—as the Rule of St. Benedict suggests. It invites participants to approach the Eucharist contemplatively: in meditation, with quiet reverence, and not primarily with the expectation of “gaining something from it.”

From August 7 to 9, 2026, the seminar “Singing as Prayer” will take place. The course takes up a saying of St. Augustine: “Cantare amantis est”—singing belongs to the one who loves. The well-known saying “He who sings prays twice” also makes clear how closely singing and prayer are connected. For Benedictine monks, singing is an integral part of daily prayer. St. Benedict reminds us that when we sing, we stand “in the presence of the angels.” The seminar invites everyone who enjoys singing—regardless of prior musical experience. The focus is on how prayer can be deepened through one’s own voice.
Both seminars are led by Abbot Mauritius Wilde, OSB, and take place as part of the seminars and retreats offered by the Maria Laach Guest Wing. The participation fee is 120 euros for each seminar. Accommodations and meals are arranged separately through the St. Gilbert Guest Wing.
