DVG-Exkursion zum 1. Mai

This year, an excursion will again take place on May 1st. Prof. Lothar Viereck will guide a tour through the East Eifel volcanic area to the Bausenberg lava flow and the Engelner sand pit. You can find the complete excursion program here: Meeting point: 9:30 AM Park & Ride parking lot at the entrance Niederzissen to the A61 towards Koblenz/Ludwigshafen Part 1a: Circular hike (1h) into the crater of the cinder cone Bausenberg and over the chimney part of its basalt lava flow with a historical quarry west of the highway (Photo 1).

Vortrag: Bilderreise mit Laachus durch die Vulkanregion Laacher See

Multi-Media Presentation by Walter Müller With a total area of 21 km² including its crater rim areas, the Laacher See is the largest nature reserve in Rhineland-Palatinate. The Maria Laach Monastery manages a total of approximately 440 hectares of agricultural land, consisting of 320 hectares of arable land and 120 hectares of permanent grassland surrounding the lake, which, with an area of 3.6 km², is the largest still body of water in our state.
