Part 1b: Drive with the cars to the east side of the highway to the northern end of the Scheid industrial area (Fa. Hilger “Your Waste Destroyer”); there, a circular hike (3/4h) around/through the historical quarries in the lava flow east of the highway.

Part 1c: Drive with the cars along the lava flow to Gönnersdorf; there, visit the quarry (3/4h) in the S-curve at the northwestern entrance of the village (Photo 2). Drive from Gönnersdorf via Waldorf, Niederzissen to the Vulkan-Stube at the Engeln train station

Lunch: at Vulkanstube at Engeln train station around 1 PM

Part 2: Departure around 2 PM to the Engelner sand pit at Buchhof, at the northern exit of the village of Engeln. There, visit the quarry (1h) (Photos 3 & 4).

End of the excursion around 3:30 PM.
