Zu Gast im Rathaus: Vortrag der chinesische Künstlerin Yingmei Duan
Jul 1, 2025
Niederzissen
On July 1 from 6 p.m., Yingmei Duan will give an insight into her view of Chinese culturein a picture lecture at the town hall of the Brohltal municipality in Niederzissen and invite questions and discussions.
China is a huge country and the villages in the east, west, south and north each have their own special characteristics. The lecture offers an insight into the diversity of the Chinese regions and provides a deeper understanding of their cultural and historical developments. A carefully selected collection of old photographs will be used to travel back in time to rural China from the 1970s to the 2000s. The pictures show people, families, courtyards, schools, restaurants, streets, landscapes, games and food - snapshots of social change and everyday life in the countryside.
Over the past 20 years, China has changed and developed considerably. With her lecture, Yingmei Duan would like to introduce traditional Chinese culture, its customs and ways of life and bring them to life. She hopes to encourage an exchange to develop a deeper understanding of the culture, school days, family values and social influences of the different cultures, to get to know different perspectives and to reflect on how our origins have shaped our identity and our world view.
Another topic of her lecture deals with "Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)", which is not only used to cure diseases, but especially for preventive health care. Both of Yingmei Duan's parents were doctors and she grew up with the smell of Chinese herbs.
YingmeiDuan was born in China in 1969 and now lives in Braunschweig. She came to Germany to study at the age of 28 and became acquainted with Western culture. Today she works on art projects all over the world. She combines Chinese and Western influences - she recognizes both the similarities and the differences.
