“That’s how it was back then” – Fairground flair like in the 50s and 60s Fairgrounds have always been an integral part of village life. In earlier times – and in some places still today – the fair was a highlight of the annual cycle. Authentic recreations of fairground scenes, historical rides, and nostalgic treats transport visitors back to a time when cotton candy, roasted almonds, and the sounds of the barrel organ defined village happenings.
“Our daily bread” – From grain to loaf Bread is one of the oldest and most important staple foods of humanity – and remains an indispensable part of our diet today. The film shows the journey of bread from the sowing of grains to the finished loaf. The footage takes viewers through the Brohltal. Filming took place, among other locations, in the picturesque Vinxtbachtal, in the historic Mosenmühle, and in the former bakery in Schalkenbach. The film not only documents the artisanal steps involved but also conveys a sense of the close connection between nature, agriculture, and traditional craftsmanship.
“Bats – Mysterious Night Hunters”: When the sun sets on warm summer evenings, they come to life. Bats glide silently through the darkness in search of insects. In so-called nurseries, female bats raise their young in the summer before retreating completely in the winter – for example, into abandoned tunneling systems like the Mayen mining field. Bats are fascinating yet highly endangered creatures. However, many prejudices and a negative image still cling to them today – completely unjustly. The film provides exciting insights into the secret lives of bats – and aims to promote admiration and protection for these silent night hunters.
“He has stayed.” Even after the convent of the Cistercians at the Himmerod Monastery in the Eifel was dissolved, Father Stefan continues to live there – alone, but not lonely. As a monk, priest, poet, and development worker, he is a person with many facets. His decision to keep the monastery as his home reflects a deep connection and inner conviction.
“When the bells go crazy” – “Dingeln” in Ahrweiler A special sound event fills the old town of Ahrweiler every year: the so-called Dingeln, also Beiern – a centuries-old tradition of rhythmic hand bell ringing. In his film, the author accompanies the Dingel group up into the bell tower – providing rare insights into a vibrant piece of cultural identity and sound history.
