This special day provides insights into otherwise inaccessible monuments and offers the opportunity to learn more about the stories, architecture and
secrets of the historical sites. Guided tours, exhibitions, lectures and family programs make the day an exciting experience for young and old. Local experts, historians and monument conservators are on hand to explain the cultural and historical significance of the monuments and show how important it is to preserve them for future generations.
The Open Monument Day is organized nationwide by the German Foundation for Monument Protection and attracts millions of visitors every year. It is the
largest day of action for Germany's cultural heritage and creates a broad awareness of the importance of monument protection.

Open guided tours in the Ancient Technology World at the Meurin Roman Mine, Kretz During the guided tours in the Ancient Technology World, which is located in the outdoor area of the Meurin Roman Mine, the numerous workshops and reconstructed ancient machines, such as the crane system and marble saw, are explored together with a tour guide and some are put into operation. Visitors can try out selected stations themselves under supervision.
