Mendig

Eifel trip …the comedy bus tour through the volcanic region

“I am proud of my homeland – I don’t have another one”

In the Eifel, the Tuscany of Germany, lies the legendary volcanic region of Laacher See by the Maria Laach Monastery. HP - Craftsman Peters will take you on a bus tour of a special kind: namely with lots of comedy and packed insider knowledge.

Experience the associations of Mendig, Brohltal, and Pellen as the most beautiful journey of your life. At Mendig Airport is the boarding point and then it goes 2 ½ hours without a doubt straight through the Eifel...with HP, the heart's travel guide and the living Eifel encyclopedia: He knows every Bimskaul by name, gets a drink in every pub, and has worked under the table at all the important spots. Just incredible like the region.

Basalt meets asphalt. Eifel know-how meets living room atmosphere. Expertise meets craftsman maturity. A very wise man (Craftsman Peters) once said: "Home is like having wet your pants - everyone sees it, but only you feel the warmth! So you have to convey it to others." Or to put it in the words of an even wiser man (yes, it is again Craftsman Peters):

Where green landscapes spill out
and the maars spring from the earth,
you see plenty of fields and potato patches
and above it races the farmer with his tractor.
He doesn’t harvest potatoes, he doesn’t spread dung,
he's on the run from the tax investigation.
In the stable, the cow is bursting at the seams,
because the milking machine has a short circuit.
There the rooster is truly crazy,
when he chases the geese in the yard.
Where do you feel at ease and nothing hurts anymore?
Right - in the volcanic region of Laacher See!

Wager? Then hop on board...

Mit Volldampf auf die Steilstrecke
Sep 6, 2025 - Oct 5, 2025

Brohltalbahn operates steam locomotive 11sm for the wine festival to EngelnIt’s a premiere: With full steam, the almost 120-year-old steam locomotive 11sm will pull the Vulkan-Expreß for the first time on a regular schedule over the steep route up to Engeln on the first weekend of October. What passengers, train enthusiasts, and steam fans have long wished for will become reality during the wine festival in Oberzissen.Steam operation is regularly available on the Brohltalbahn. Usually on one to two weekends per month, the historic Mallet steam locomotive 11sm travels through the Brohltal between Brohl-Lützing and Oberzissen, as it will again on September 6/7. On the steep section starting in Oberzissen, powerful diesel locomotives then take over the trains for the journey over the 1:20 incline (equivalent to 5%) up to the Eifel heights at Engeln. Departure in Brohl for the steam trains is always at 10:15 AM and 2:15 PM.
