22.07.2026 - Freifahrt für Kinder und Jugendliche im Vulkan-Express

Jul 22, 2026

Brohl

On this day, all trains between Brohl-Lützing on the Rhine and Kempenich-Engeln in the Eifel are open for free use by children and young people – no matter where, no matter how often! Exciting destinations await at the 9 stations of the small railway: Whether it's to Engeln on the Eifel heights and from there to Olbrück Castle, or for a discovery tour through the gloomy trass caves near Bad Tönisstein, the "Vulkan-Express" travels for free there and back! With bus connections from the terminal station Engeln, even the Laacher See or the Volcano Museum "Lava-Dome" in Mendig can be easily reached (free travel not valid on the bus).

It all starts from the Brohltalbahnhof in Brohl at 10:15 AM, and from Engeln at 2:20 PM. The exact schedule for the intermediate stations can be checked online at www.vulkan-express.de.

For the journey to Brohl, the Mittelrheinbahn (RB 26), which runs hourly between Cologne and Koblenz, is recommended.

Winterfahrten mit dem Vulkan-Expreß
Jan 17, 2027 - Feb 28, 2027

It's a peaceful setting as the historic "Vulkan-Express" of the Brohltalbahn sets off for its popular winter journey from the Rhine to the Eifel. Upon reaching the destination after about an hour's train ride through the hopefully snow-covered Brohltal, passengers can look forward to a winter hike with a stop at a barbecue hut. The Brohltalbahnhof in Brohl-Lützing on the Rhine exudes tranquility even before departure: The historic diesel locomotive stands ready in front of the nostalgic passenger cars, providing a cozy warmth in the compartments. Instead of QR codes on smartphones, passengers receive original cardboard tickets at the counter in the station building, which beautifully set the mood for the upcoming nostalgic journey. At 11:15 AM, when the connecting trains from Cologne and Koblenz have arrived, the conductor finally whistles for departure to the Eifel.
