Vortrag in Maria Laach

Jan 21, 2026

Maria Laach

The evening is dedicated to questions of rule-based collaboration, which gain new relevance against the backdrop of current international developments. Central principles of state action as well as the political legacy of Konrad Adenauer, which has profoundly shaped post-war German history and continues to provide orientation today, are the focus.
At the beginning of the event, Abbot Dr. Mauritius Wilde OSB welcomes the guests. Starting from the theme of the evening, he places it in the context of the Benedictine tradition. He emphasizes: “Order is not created by arbitrariness, but by the willingness to commit to shared rules. The Rule of Benedict is exemplary of a way of life that enables community, responsibility, and moderation. Even beyond the monastic framework, it becomes clear that reliable order does not restrict, but rather enables viable freedom and coexistence.”
Following the lecture, there will be an opportunity to share a meal informally at the lakeside hotel. A prior reservation is kindly requested.

Winterfahrten mit dem Vulkan-Expreß
Jan 18, 2026 - Feb 22, 2026

It's a peaceful setting as the historic "Vulkan-Express" of the Brohltalbahn sets off for its popular winter journey from the Rhine to the Eifel. Upon reaching the destination after about an hour's train ride through the hopefully snow-covered Brohltal, passengers can look forward to a winter hike with a stop at a barbecue hut. The Brohltalbahnhof in Brohl-Lützing on the Rhine exudes tranquility even before departure: The historic diesel locomotive stands ready in front of the nostalgic passenger cars, providing a cozy warmth in the compartments. Instead of QR codes on smartphones, passengers receive original cardboard tickets at the counter in the station building, which beautifully set the mood for the upcoming nostalgic journey. At 11:15 AM, when the connecting trains from Cologne and Koblenz have arrived, the conductor finally whistles for departure to the Eifel.
