Vortrag: „Die vulkanische Aktivität auf der Reykjanes Halbinsel, Island“
Mar 12, 2026
Niederzissen
He attempts to convey geology and volcanism in an entertaining yet scientifically grounded manner that does not deter listeners with too many facts, but rather encourages them to venture out on their own and make their own observations.
A journey into the coral reefs of the Devonian Sea 360 million years ago, a look at mountains that rose and eroded again. Fossilized seabeds with corals, brachiopods, and primeval crustaceans. A journey through the world of sandstone, where the Eifelosaurus once roamed and which today forms the most bizarre rocks of the Eifel. A journey through the deepest gorges in the Jura sandstones of the southern Eifel, through the volcanic world of the Vulkaneifel and the Osteifel, deep down into the Earth's mantle and up to the highest peaks, formed from basalt chimneys of past volcanoes. Excursions into the dark underground of the Eifel, into ore and lava mines, caves, and old tunnels.
A live report with many photos and maps, occasionally some music for short relaxation and of course, plenty of geological and volcanological information about the Earth's history of the Eifel and the Rhenish Slate Mountains.
