For the Spring Festival, many people stick the sign "福" on doors and windows to wish each other good luck for the New Year. It is a popular motif in calligraphy and is also widely used in art forms such as painting, paper cutting, carving and embroidery. The "福" tradition is passed down from generation to generation.

On July 4 from 18:00 to 20:00, Yingmei Duan is offering a calligraphy workshop for young and old at Cimiotti's Garten, Schulstraße 1a, in Mendig.

On July 5 from 5:20 to 8:30 p.m. there will be an opportunity to attend a calligraphy workshop in the Burgbrohl art pavilion.

Yingmei Duan has been invited from 30 June to 5 July as part of the RENT AN ARTIST art project and you can still book her service menu "Knocking on Doors - Arriving in Burgbrohl with Small Chinese Gifts".

Yingmei Duan was born in China in 1969 and lives in Braunschweig. In her early days, she was part of the Chinese avant-garde and lived in Beijing's legendary East Village artists' quarter. In 1995, she took part in the performance "To add one meter to an anonymous mountain", which has since become a classic of Chinese modernism.
She became a pure performance artist under the influence of Marina Abramovic, with whom she studied at the HBK in Braunschweig from 2000 to 2004. There she also studied film with Birgit Hein and Christoph Schlingensief. Over the past 25 years, Yingmei Duan has focused on interactive work in her performative practice and has extensively investigated the medium of performance in research projects. She has made a name for herself with her cultural projects at numerous
national and international exhibitions, festivals and workshops.
