Jubiläum am Laacher See

Maria Laach
Celebrations will take place around the tourist information center at the visitor parking lot of Maria Laach, featuring a balloon artist, a prize wheel, and many participatory activities for children. At 4:30 PM, an organ soirée will be held in the abbey church with Gereon Krahforst on the themes of nature and elements – including an improvisation on a volcanic eruption.
Background:
The municipalities of Brohltal, Mendig, and Pellenz have been collaborating for over ten years on the joint marketing and execution of the successful cultural and experience week "Night of the Volcanoes" since 2015. The joint construction of the tourist information center (TI) in Maria Laach marked a milestone. “With the establishment of the tourist information, we are fulfilling the long-held wish for a common contact point for the many visitors to Maria Laach. Together, we are moving away from the 'church tower mentality' and enabling targeted, effective marketing of our wonderful holiday region around Lake Laach, which appeals to a wide range of potential visitors,” said the three mayors Johannes Bell (Brohltal), Klaus Bell (Pellenz), and Jörg Lempertz (Mendig) at the time. By the way, 2024 will see the TI surpass the 500,000 visitor mark.
The clear goal was to expand the tourist potential and increase the value creation of all involved actors. A goal that has impressively been achieved in retrospect. According to a study by the German Economic Science Institute for Tourism (dwif) for the year 2019, the holiday region recorded 2.848 million overnight stays. Of these, about 2.6 million were day trips. In total, a gross turnover of 84.9 million euros was generated in the tourism sector in 2019 (overnight guests: 22 million euros; day guests: 62.9 million euros).
The merger was a statewide pilot project with a model character for inter-municipal cooperation – even across district borders – accompanied by the Rheinland-Palatinate Tourism GmbH (RPT) and the Tourism and Spa Association (THV) Rhineland-Palatinate. In 2014, the THV commissioned the "ift Freizeit- und Tourismusberatung GmbH" from Cologne to provide substantial support to the municipalities in their project to optimize the tourist structures in the Lake Laach holiday region with a joint Tourist Service Center (TSC). The findings were later to be made available to other municipalities in Rhineland-Palatinate.
