Following an old tradition, the men of the region set out on the journey to "Blue Monday." With vintage buses or even more rustic tractors, they head to an unknown destination. Upon arrival, they visit something interesting; a building, a business, or an industrial monument. Afterwards, they transition directly to the cozy part of the evening. With a rustic dinner and one or more bottles of beer, they ceremoniously celebrate the conclusion of the traditional "Blue Monday." A unique experience that 120-130 people participate in each year.

So where does the term "Blue Monday" actually come from? One might know "blau machen" - "being blue." Let's look into the old fabric dyeing craft.
In contrast to other colors like purple, fabrics dyed blue were easy to produce. The most important dye came from India, known as indigo, or the somewhat less intensely dyeing native woad. To produce the dye, the leaves of the woad were fermented in buckets with human urine. By adding alcohol, the fermentation process was enhanced. However, alcohol was expensive, so the dyers drank large amounts of alcohol, which then enriched their urine. To dye the fabrics, they were usually immersed in the dye bath for at least 12 hours on Sundays. The blue color on the textile pieces appeared only when they were hung in the air for an extended period. Whenever the apprentice dyers were drunkenly waiting on Monday for the results, everyone knew that blue dyeing had taken place; the dyers were "blue" and made "blue." The term "Blue Monday" also finds its origin here. The free Monday has also made its way into other professions, with no event trying to replicate what the dyers did.

But this old tradition, which the stone masons and carvers of our region have embraced for centuries, should continue to be maintained. Even today, the men meet every Monday in many towns of our area for "Blue Monday."
